Dec. 30, 2004
College Park, Md. -
Coming off its first ACC championship since 1998, the Maryland men's lacrosse team is ranked No. 5 in the Preseason Face-Off Yearbook Coaches' Poll conducted by Inside Lacrosse. The poll was compiled from 56 coaches' surveys.
Maryland, which went 13-3 last season, was also ranked No. 5 in each of the last two preseason polls. Every opponent on the Terps' 2005 schedule is either ranked among the top 25 or received votes in the preseason poll.
The Terrapins will take on five of the top eight teams: hosting No. 1 Johns Hopkins (April 15), No. 6 Georgetown (February 26), No. 7 North Carolina (March 26), and visiting No. 4 Navy (April 8) and No. 8 Virginia (April 2).
The Terps will also face No. 2 Syracuse (February 19) and No. 3 Princeton (February 12) in preseason scrimmages.
Maryland will be led by its pair of preseason first-team All-Americans Joe Walters (Attack) and Bill McGlone (Midfield). Walters, the 2004 ACC offensive player of the year, was a USILA first team All-American last season. Brendan Healy was also honored as a third team All-American at midfield.
