Coming off of back-to-back winning efforts, the Terps travel to Georgia Tech looking to extend its winning streak to three games on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. This is the third game this week for Maryland. As the season winds down, the Terps, who have guaranteed themselves a winning record for the first time in three years, stand alone in third place and look to pull away from the pack that sits just one game behind.
Head coach Brenda Frese's stamp on a rising Maryland program is evident. Known for her amazing turnarounds, in just her second season the Terps (15-8, 7-5 ACC) have posted seven ACC victories tying or surpassing their conference win total from seven of the last 10 years. After being picked to finish eighth in the league in the coaches preseason poll, Frese has guided her young squad to a third place showing in the ACC so far with four games still remaining on the schedule.
Maryland (15-8, 7-5 ACC) is coming off of a 76-67 win at Comcast Center on Thursday night. Sophomore Chrissy Fisher's five free throws in the final 29 seconds iced Maryland's 76-67 win over ACC foe Florida State on Thursday night at Comcast Center. Four Terps scored in double figures, led by freshmen Shay Doron and Kalika France who both had 16 points.
Georgia Tech upset Virginia, 65-55, at home on Thursday night, snapping a three-game losing skid and improving its record to 12-11 overall and 3-8 in the ACC. It is the Yellow Jackets' first conference win over another conference foe besides Florida State, sweeping the Seminoles this season. Fallon Stokes is the conference's second leading scorer, averaging 17.1 points per game. She is the only player for Georgia Tech who is averaging double-digit scoring.
Maryland owns the series vs. Georgia Tech, 35-14, since the series began in 1979-80. The Terps have won three of the last four meetings, including a 91-87 victory earlier this season at Comcast Center. The 90-point output was the most by the Terps since 1999.
