Maryland Wrestlers Split Dual Matches

NORFOLK, Va. - Matt Pandullo, Jerad Villecco and John Antonelli each won a pair of matches as Maryland split non-conference wrestling dual matches Saturday hosted by Old Dominion University.
The Terrapins lost 27-12 to UNC Greensboro in the first dual match of the day, then responded later to defeat the host Monarchs, 22-14. The split lifted Maryland to a 3-8 record in dual matches this season.
Pandullo began his day with a win by fall over Kyle Terrell. He got the pin at the 5:00 mark of the 125-pound match. Two bouts later, Villecco beat Nate Berryman, 7-4, at the 149-pound bout, while Antonelli beat Keith Ritter, 4-1, at 165.
UNC Greensboro took a 12-0 lead after the first three bouts with the Terps, then improved its lead to 18-6 and 21-9 later in the match.
The Terps trailed ODU 8-4 after three bouts in the nightcap, with Jerry Afari's 13-4 major decision at 197 accounting for Maryland's points. Pandullo got a 12-3 major decision to tie the match.
After ODU went ahead 11-8, Jason Gribschaw and Villecco each won major decisions to put Maryland ahead 16-11. Jason Kiessling lost at 157 in a tie-breaker before wins by Antonelli and Pat Cissne gave Maryland the team victory.
Maryland travels to Virginia on Wednesday, Feb. 18 in its next match.
