COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's basketball team faces a tough schedule ahead, with two of its remaining three games on the road. Jockeying for position in the ACC standings, the Terps look to get back on track at No. 16/15 North Carolina on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The game pits four of the conference's top freshmen in Shay Doron and Kalika France of Maryland and UNC's Camille Little and Ivory Latta.
The game spotlights four of the ACC's premier freshmen. Doron (Great Neck, N.Y.) and France (Forestville, Md.) lead the Terps in scoring with 13.0 ppg and 11.7 ppg, respectively. The Heels' Little and Latta are the top-scoring newcomers in the league, averaging 14.1 ppg a piece. Little (8.3) and France (5.9) are their respective team's top rebounders, while all four rank in the top 10 among all freshmen in steals and assists.
Maryland (15-9, 7-5 ACC) is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 58-57 setback at Georgia Tech but still remain in third place in the ACC standings. However, the Terps are now tied with a charging NC State squad that has won seven of their last eight conference games after starting the ACC slate 0-5.
North Carolina stands alone in second place at 8-4 and boasts an 18-5 overall record. The Heels have dropped their last two games, both of which were at home. The Wolfpack pulled off the upset on Feb. 8 (62-54) followed by a 10-point loss to Duke (89-79) on Valentine's Day.
The Terps trail in the all-time series, 30-26, having most recently dropped a 72-59 decision at Comcast Center in January, and have lost the last six matchups. Maryland has won just seven games in Chapel Hill in 24 meetings, having last won on the Heels' home court in 1995-96.
