RUTGERS, NJ-- The No. 25 ranked Maryland women's gymnastics team came in second place at the four-way meet against Rutgers, Temple and Bridgeport with a score of 193.925. Sophomore Rachel Martinez took the all-around title, while freshman Ashley LeVine set a new career best on the balance beam (9.800).
Rutgers took first place with a 195.100, while Temple (192.425) and Bridgeport (189.500)finished third and fourth respectively.
Maryland won the vault competition with a team score of 48.000. Three Terps placed in the top three in the event, with Martinez taking the title with a 9.850. Freshman Rachel Colon followed with a 9.650, while sophomores Cameron Logan and Rebecca Ruppert were in a three-way tie for third place with the score of 9.575.
Martinez made her mark on the bars as well, tying for first place with Rutgers' Stephanie Zink with a 9.900. Sophomore Leah Brill posted a career-best tying 9.825. Beam specialist Sarah Hoenig took that event for the Terps, with a meet-high score of 9.900. Brill also tied her career-best on the beam with a 9.825. Freshman LeVine notched her season best, a 9.800.
The Terps combined for a 49.225 on the floor competition to tie with Rutgers for first place on the event. Martinez tied for first place with a 9.9 with Rutgers' Caitlin Jo Wight, while Hoenig and freshman Marisa St. Louis tied for fifth with a 9.850.
Maryland hosts George Washington on Mar. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Comcast Center. Admission to the meet is free.
