Change In Tip-off Time For Feb. 22 Game Vs. Duke
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Having already surpassed its season win total from last year, Maryland picked up its fifth ACC victory when it defeated Clemson, 68-55, on Jan. 29, topping its conference win total from each of the last two seasons. The Terps, who are currently tied for third place in the league standings, look to sweep Virginia and solidify their position in the ACC, travelling to Charlottesville on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. The game marks the Terps' fourth television appearance of the season, with the game airing live on Fox Sports South and the Sunshine Network, and will air on Comcast SportsNet on a tape delay basis at 10:30 p.m.
On the strength of 22 points from freshman Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King), the Terps (13-7, 5-4 ACC) snapped a three-game losing skid when it defeated the Tigers. Maryland looks to carry that momentum into Thursday night's contest when it goes for the regular-season series sweep. After defeating Virginia, 69-55, earlier in the year, the team is looking to sweep UVA for the first time since the 1988-89 season.
The Wahoos are just behind the Terps in the conference standings, owning a 4-5 mark in ACC play, and 10-10 overall. Virginia has won just one conference game at home in four tries, edging out Georgia Tech, 60-59. UVA has had seven ACC games decided by 10 points or less, winning four of those contests, most recently pulling out a 62-61 victory at Wake Forest.
While Doron leads the team with 13.2 points per game, senior Delvona Oliver (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) has been dominant as of late, averaging 14.6 ppg over the last five games and is averaging 9.8 ppg overall. She has scored at least 17 points in four of the last five games. Kalika France is also averaging double-figure scoring at 11.4. A freshman guard, she leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per game, grabbing at least five boards on 13 occassions.
The Terps' game can also be heard on WMUC Radio 88.1 FM.
