COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Help the Terrapin women's basketball team Keep the Demons Out! when the team returns to Comcast Center on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. With the team having its best season in recent memory, Maryland head coach Brenda Frese has guided her Terps to a 13-8 overall record, including a 10-2 mark on their home court. The Terps are also tied for third in the ACC standings with a 5-5 record heading as they host the Demon Deacons in a regionally televised contest. Students can win an Xbox, a DVD player or two suite tickets for the men's basketball game vs. Virginia during the game.
The only game on tap in the ACC, Monday night's game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports South and the Sunshine Network. The Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday will also be making the call on the Terrapin Sports Network.
The Terps already defeated the Deacons earlier in the season. Maryland recorded its biggest win in ACC play in three years when it downed WFU, 75-58, on Jan. 9 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Freshman Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) scored 23 second-half points en route to a 32-point outing, tying the Maryland freshman class record.
Wake Forest (10-11, 3-7) comes into the game having lost their last two contests by a combined five points. Their last five games have been decided by four points or loss, winning two of those games, including a 69-67 upset of no. 12/13 North Carolina.
Maryland has dominated the series with the Deacons, leading 42-12 since the series began in 1977. The Terps have won six of the last eight meetings and are 16-7 vs. WFU in College Park. Last year, WFU squeezed by the Terps and went home with a 79-75 victory.
Three student raffles will be conducted to win prizes such as an Xbox, DVD Player or two suite tickets to the men's basketball game vs. Virginia. The general public can also win two tickets to the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament March 5-8 or a Maryland prize package. The first 1,000 fans also receive a free Fear the Turtle t-shirt. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Monday is also Women In Sports Day, as fans will have a chance to meet players and coaches from Terrapin women's sports teams. Scheduled to appear are members of the women's lacrosse, volleyball, track, field hockey and gymnastics teams.
