
After the Smoke Clears, Football Recruiting Class One of School's Best

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A few days after the University of Maryland football program announced its 2004 signees, what was apparent throughout the recruiting process became a nationally-recognized fact -- this year's group is one of the best in the nation and one of the best in school history.
This year's recruiting class is a reflection of how far the Terrapin program has come after three years under Ralph Friedgen and a further indication that the future is even brighter. Though it has been noted that a few recruits made their way to other schools in the days leading up to National Signing Day, what has not been lost on analysts is the fact that the players Maryland did land are among the most solid groups in the country.
The Terps had nearly all of its 22 signees secured through verbal commitments long before February 4th and in even less dramatic fashion, there were no surprises on signing day. Every player who verbally committed had their names on the dotted line and into the Gossett Team House by mid-day Wednesday.
