COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman Kalika France was picked ACC Rookie of the Week, which was announced today, after leading the women's basketball team to a road victory over Clemson on Sunday and helping the Terps clinch the fourth seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.
A 5-9 guard, France (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara) tallied 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists in 37 minutes in the win over the Tigers. She connected on 11-of-13 free throws, including seven in the last two minutes to preserve the victory for Maryland. Her 11 second-half points helped hold off a Clemson comeback, as the Terps finish the conference regular season at 8-8.
Maryland freshmen have earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors a total of five times this season. France was also tabbed Rookie of the Week on December 29 and January 19. Fellow freshman Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) was also selected for the weekly honor twice.
The fourth-seeded Terps play fifth-seeded Florida State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, March 6 at 8:30 p.m.
