COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Game times for the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship first and second round contests have been announced. No. 12-seed Maryland opens its NCAA Tournament action against No. 5-seed Miami (Fla.) on Sunday, March 21 at 7 p.m. EST in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. The game will be televised on ESPN2 in the Baltimore/Washington area and is available from all markets on DirecTV and the Dish Network. Game two between fourth-seeded LSU and 13th-seeded Austin Peay tips off 30 minutes following the conclusion Terps-Hurricanes matchup.
The Terrapins are making their 17th national championship appearance, earning their 13th NCAA Tournament bid. Maryland, 17-12 this season, earned an at-large bid on Sunday when the 64-team NCAA Tournament bracket was announced.
The Hurricanes (22-6) are making their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance and second straight. They earned an at-large bid after falling to eventual Big East Champion Boston College in the first round of their conference tournament.
The two teams have faced each other three times heading into the NCAA Tournament, as the Terps lead the all-time series, 2-1. Miami handed Maryland a 97-66 loss last year at the Hurricane's Holiday Classic.
The winners of the first round matchups in Baton Rouge, La., go on to play in the second round on Tuesday, March 23. The gametime has not been set.
