263 Terrapins Named to Athletics Honor Roll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A total of 263 Maryland student-athletes representing the University's 27 varsity sports were named to the Intercollegiate Athletics Honor Roll for the 2003 fall semester, Athletics Director Deborah A. Yow announced today. Student-athletes must earn a 3.0 grade-point average or better in a semester to be eligible for the list.
"This is a great testament to the level of commitment that our student-athletes, coaches and staff have given to their successes in the classroom," said Yow. "We are very proud of our student-athletes who have successfully competed in the classroom."
The women's swimming and water polo teams had the most representatives with 35, the women's cross country/indoor & outdoor track teams and the Gator Bowl Champion football squad had 20 each, and the 2003 NCAA semifinalist men's lacrosse team had 18 players earn the honor.
The field hockey and women's lacrosse teams also reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals. Each had 13 student-athletes earn spots on the ICA Honor Roll. The Atlantic Coast Conference Champion women's volleyball team also posted eight members to the list.
Among those featured on the ICA Honor Roll were first team All-ACC football performers C.J. Brooks and Nick Novak. Volleyball's Aimee Huddleston was an American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American this season. Freshman field hockey player Paula Infante was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association first team All-American while leading the team in scoring and was also an ICA Honor Roll honoree.
Women's tennis player Emily Marker and field hockey's Sara Silvetti were honored earlier this month by the ACC, when they were granted Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarships, an honor given to conference student-athletes who perform with distinction athletically, academically and in community service.
