Terrapin Baseball Falls To Florida State, 10-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Maryland baseball team fell to Florida State University tonight by a score of 10-1 at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahasse, Fla. The Terps struggled at the plate against a strong pitching performance from the Seminoles' Eddie Cannon who gave up just one run on five hits to Maryland.

The Terrapins (9-9, 0-2 ACC) scored first to take an early lead in the second inning. Junior Jason Maxey hit a solo shot to right field in the inning for his first home run of the season. The Seminoles (19-5, 2-2 ACC) took over the lead in the third inning after tying the game in the second.

In the fourth inning, Florida State broke out offensively and scored six runs. Four of the Seminoles' runs in the inning came around when Ryne Malone hit his second grand slam of the series.

Maxey led the Terps offensively against Florida State, earning three out of the Maryland's seven hits. Sophomore Matt Maropis recorded a pair of hits while freshman Dan Melvin and junior Kevin Hart had the Terrapins' other hits in the game.

Sophomore Seth Overbey relieved the Terrapins' starter, junior Chris Clem, in the sixth inning. Overbey was perfect in his first two innings of relief, getting each of his first six batters out.

The Terrapins will meet Florida State again tomorrow for the final game of the series. The game will be played at 1 p.m. at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee.
