NEW HAVEN, Conn. -
The University of Maryland track and field teams continued competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships Saturday in New Haven, Conn., on the campus of Yale University. The women's team finished the day in ninth place with 17 points behind strong performances from Kierra Foster and Tia Burley.
Foster, already an NCAA regional qualifier in the long jump, bested her season-long and finished second in the event (20-04.25). Teammate Heather Houston was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19-10.25. The duo combined for 13 Terrapin points on the day.
Burley qualified for the finals in the 400 meters, running the preliminary heat in 53.49. The time, a season-best, qualified Burley for the NCAA regional meet. Toni Jefferson will compete in the finals of the 200 meters after finishing seventh in the preliminaries (24.71).
Danielle Siebert was 17th in the 1,500 meters (4:32.97), while Zhanna Barer finished 23rd in the pole vault (11-03.75).
On the men's side, Harold Manning will run in tomorrow's finals of the 200 meters. His preliminary time of 21.60 was the seventh-best of the day.
Rob Frelow was 12th in the preliminaries of the 400 meters (47.91), while Beau Fay and John Collins were 22nd (167-04) and 25th (164-08) in the hammer throw, respectively.
Competition continues tomorrow at the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
