
Maryland Baseball Defeated By No. 10 Georgia Tech, 18-6

ABERDEEN, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team was defeated by No. 10 Georgia Tech on Sunday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md., by a score of 18-6. The Terrapins scored a run in each of the first three innings, against the Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech (38-17, 18-5 ACC) scored two runs in the first, but the Terrapins (21-32, 4-20 ACC) rebounded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Matt Maropis led off the inning with a single to right field and moved to third on senior Anthony Buffone's double. Junior Will Frazier recorded the RBI by scoring Maropis on a sacrifice fly to center field.
After the Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to 5-1 in the second, Maryland got one back in the bottom of the inning. Junior Truan Mehl doubled to left center and proceeded to steal third base. Mehl later came around to score on a Georgia Tech fielding error.
The Terrapins tacked on another run in the third inning when Frazier hit a solo shot over the left field wall. The home run was his ninth of the season. The Yellow Jackets had expanded their lead to 16-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
In the seventh inning, Maryland put two runs up on the scoreboard. Sophomore Brian Jarosinski led off the inning with a single up the middle. He came in to score when the Terps' next batter, junior Jason Maxey doubled to deep center. Junior Elliot Singletary notched an RBI later in the inning when he scored Maxey on a sacrifice fly to right field.
After Georgia Tech scored twice in the top of the eighth, the Terps scored a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Junior Kevin Hart recorded an RBI when he knocked in Maropis with a single to center field. Maropis had led off the inning with a walk.
The Terps will be in action next when they travel to Salem, Va., for the 2004 ACC Tournament. Maryland will meet Wake Forest University on Tuesday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the opening round.
