
Incoming Freshman Laura Harper Helps US Junior Team to Gold

Incoming freshman Laura Harper (Elkins Park, Pa.) helped the US Junior Women's Basketball Team win a gold medal at the FIBA America's Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament last week at the Sports Palace in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The Red, White & Blue grabbed a 121-56 victory over host country Puerto Rico on Sunday night as the U.S. secured a trip to the 2005 Junior World Championship which will take place in Tunisia in July 2005.
Harper averaged 12.8 points per game and 4.6 rebounds over the five games of the tournament, scoring in double digits in every game. She recorded a tournament-high 17 points in the 143-24 win over Bolivia.
Harper joins a young Maryland Terrapin squad in 2004-05. Eight of the 11 players on head coach Brenda Frese's team will be freshmen and sophomores. Harper and the rest of the Terps open the season in November.
