MANCHESTER, ENGLAND
8:15-8:50 a.m.-- The Terps wake up and head to their last meal at the University of Manchester is breakfast, consisting of what is now "the usual" (eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage and beans). The water-downed orange juice becomes even more diluted in the tearful farewell.
In all fairness to the good people at the University of Manchester, everyone treated the team very warmly. The food wasn't terrible, either - everyone was always well-nourished.
9-9:30 a.m-- The Terps check out of their rooms at the University of Manchester. 9:30-10:30-- The team loads up its luggage and gets on the bus for the hour drive today's game. Noon: Kickoff vs. Accrington Stanley FC
Maryland 4, Accrington 0
The Maryland Terrapins used superior speed and athleticism to get past Accrington Stanley Football Club, 4-0, on a sunny but cool Sunday afternoon at Accrington Stadium.
"We demonstrated our explosiveness with four goals in about seven minutes, and a few were of the spectacular variety," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "It's great to see. We met a different challenge today because we played against a team that was organized, very physical and much older.
"I think we have to be careful on how we judge how we play here, because the college game is different than what we are seeing here, but we are doing a lot of good things right now. We're making progress. The way the team is coming together and individuals are understanding their roles has been a pleasant surprise."
The starting lineup for the Terps today consisted of Craig Salvati in goal, backs Chris Lancos, Kenney Bertz, Eric Brunner and Michael Dello-Russo, midfielders Maurice Edu, Domenic Mediate, Stephen King and Ian Rodway, and forwards Abe Thompson and Jason Garey.
The first fifteen minutes were played mostly in the midfield and didn't produce a shot from either team, but then Terps exploded for four goals in seven minutes to blow things open.
On the first score, Mediate played a touch and go with King, and then crossed the ball to Edu who buried the ball into the bottom right corner.
Just three minutes later, Lancos served a ball into the box and found Mediate who used his speed to get past his defender and settle the ball and finish for the score. Less than a minute later, King finished a cross from Jason Garey from 10 yards out. The scoring spree was capped by a score from Garey. Ian Rodway played a through ball from the midfield into the box that Garey finished into the upper left side of the net.
The Terps again controlled the midfield for the entire game, with Rodway taking control of several balls to help start Terp possessions in the first half, and with Robbie C'deBaca helping to dictate the play for most of the second half. Accrington had just two shots on goal and had one corner kick during the match.
Salvati saved both shots on goal to record the shutout.

2:30-7:10 p.m.-- Team showers up, grabs a sandwich and loads the bus for the bus ride to Glasgow, Scotland.
The squad is pretty tired from the day, and most catch naps as the landscape rolled by. The terrain is unlike anything back in the states, it's neither mountainous nor flat, but is filled by rolling hills. Sheep and cows lay in the fields, surrounded by walls made of stone. In the four hour trip, there is barely a hint of a major city, which meant that green grass looked even more crisp against the gray, overcast sky.
Our guide Eric lets us know when we enter Scotland, or God's Country, as he calls it. (Eric is a native Scot.) He tells us that the air is cleaner, the water is crisper and that the food tastes better in Scotland. It's apparent he might carry a bit of a bias.
As the team nears its destination (Glasgow University), Michael Dello-Russo is serenaded by the players for his 21st birthday. Kevin Reiman adds to the "Happy Birthday" song with a special dance patterned after Marilyn Monroe.
7:30 p.m.-- Dinner at Glasgow University. No matter what the food tastes like, there are going to be issues if the quantity is rationed as it was tonight. Craig Salvati, despite a plate full of chicken and peas, might whittle away to nothing if that's his only serving for the night.
8 p.m.-- After dinner, the team is excused. The Glasgow University has a nice common room with a television and a pool table. There, players get treatment from trainer Terry Gee and watch the Olympics before heading to bed for the night.
