Eades Leads Terps to Eighth-Place Finish

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Junior John Eades shot a 71 and freshman Jason Occi finished his collegiate debut with an even-par 72 to lead Maryland Tuesday on the final day of the Mid Pines Intercollegiate men's golf tournament hosted by UNC Greensboro.
The tournament was the first of the fall season for the Terrapin men's golf team.
Eades had the Terps' best round of the day and finished the 54-hole tournament with a 2-over-par total of 218, placing in a tie for 14th. Occi carded a final-round 72 to finish at 228 and tie for 55th.
Also for Maryland, senior Bobby MacWhinnie finished at 223 after a 78 on Tuesday, placing in a tie for 38th. Matt Schall finished at 227 and a tie for 51st by shooting 74 in the third round, while fellow sophomore Tyler Witman finished at 228 and joined Occi among those tied for 55th.
Maryland shot a 295 as a team on Tuesday, finishing eighth in the team standings at 888.
Wichita State won the team title with a 54-hole total of 853, which was 11-under-par. Host UNC Greensboro was second at 864, with Lamar in third at 869 after having the best team round of the day at 283.
The Terrapins play this Friday and Saturday at the Rutgers Invitational.
