2004 Virginia/Nike Classic Notebook:
Maryland's 11 goals scored set a Virginia/Nike record ... the previous mark of 10 was set by Virginia in 2000 ... the title was Maryland's second at this tournament, as the Terps won in 2001 ... Virginia also finished this year's tournament 2-0, but Maryland won on the tiebreaker (goal differential) ... Abe Thompson was named tournament MVP after his three-goal, two-assist performance over the weekend ... Jason Garey, Ian Rodway and Domenic Mediate were also added to the all-tournament team ... Maryland is 8-1-1 all-time at the tournament ... seven different players scored goals for the Terps, including three players scoring the first of their careers (Maurice Edu, Stephen King and A.J. Godbolt) ... Goldbolt also made the first start of his career on Sunday against Marshall ... 11 different players registered at least one point for the Terps, including Spencer Darman Allen's first career assist against the Thundering Herd ... Ian Rodway matched his 2003 scoring total with a pair of assists over the weekend ... Erwin Diaz's goal against Long Island was his first since Sept. 22, 2002 ... despite the two team shutouts for the Terps over the weekend, Noah Palmer was not credited with them because he did not play the entire game, meaning he is still three shutouts shy of breaking Dom Macina's career record of 28 ... Abe Thompson is now just 10 points shy of breaking the century mark for career points ... if he accomplishes that feat, he will become just the second player in Terrapin history to reach 100 career points ... Craig Salvati had a career-best four saves against Marshall ... Maryland has shut out 27 of its last 51 opponents ... Maryland has won 34 in a row when scoring at least two goals ... the Terps have not trailed at any point this season, and have only been tied with teams for 20 minutes.
