COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After defeating then-No. 5/4 North Carolina on Sunday, the Maryland women's basketball team leaped six spots to No. 15 in the Associated Press poll, the second-largest jump of the week, for its highest ranking of the season. The Terps also rose to No. 17 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, tying their highest ranking of the year.
The Terrapins', who are 11-2 and 1-1 in the ACC, 92-77 win over the Tar Heels in Comcast Center was their first win over a top-five opponent since the 1992-93 season. Maryland moved into the top 20 in the coaches poll after spending a week at No. 21. The Terps spent two weeks in the top 20 this season, holding the No. 17 spot the weeks of Dec. 20 and 27.
The Terps hit the road for two ACC contests. Maryland begins the road swing at Georgia Tech on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. It then heads to Florida State on Sunday, Jan. 16, for a rematch of last year's ACC Tournament quaterfinal game which Maryland won, 62-47.
