COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins rolled past Duquesne, 24-13, but dropped a 27-11 decision to UNC Greensboro Saturday afternoon at Comcast Pavilion. In the third dual of the day, UNC Greensboro defeated Duquesne, 39-4. For the Terps, 141-pounder Charlie Pinto and 165-pounder Jason Kiessling finished the day 2-0.

With the split, Maryland moved its record to 3-8-1. UNCG improved to 8-2, while the Dukes fell to 6-5.

Maryland 24, Duquesne 13
Against Duquesne, the Terps won the first four matches and all three overtime bouts on the day en route to the 24-13 win over the Dukes. Kevin Vinh (125) scored a takedown early in the first period which proved to be all he would need in the 2-0 win. At 133, Sean Carr rallied from a 7-4 deficit late in third period for a thrilling 9-7 win in overtime. Carr scored an escape with just 37 seconds left and was then able to finish on a takedown as time was expiring in the match to send it to overtime. Carr quickly pounced for an early takedown to take the win and give Maryland a 6-0 edge.

Pinto (141) was dominant against Bernie Lynch scoring three takedowns, two three-point nearfalls and a reversal before registering the fall at 4:11 to put Maryland up 12-0. Andrew Schlaffer (149) narrowly missed a major decision over Dan Pauley winning 12-5.

Jon Denk got Duquesne its first points of the day edging Bryan Rizzo, 7-5, at 157 pounds. Rizzo pressed toward the end of the match but could finish a takedown. Jason Kiessling (165) prevented the Dukes from getting any momentum after scoring four takedowns and amassing over two minutes of riding time in his 9-3 victory Rob Dempsey, staking Maryland out to an 18-3 lead.

Duquesne's Mark Himes scored a late reversal against Luke Stauffer to send the match into overtime at 174 pounds. Stauffer, though, rebounded and scored a takedown in the one-minute sudden victory period to give the Terps the decision.

The Dukes got their second victory of the dual at 184 pounds as Jared Ricotta earned a major decision against Maryland's Rob Parker, 11-0. The Terps' Yony Noy sealed the dual victory for Maryland winning 2-1 in a tiebreaker over Tim Frank. Noy was able to maintain control of Frank in the first tiebreaker period, and then escaped quickly in the second tiebreaker period for the victory.

Maryland forfeited at heavyweight, making the final score 24-13.

As a team, the Terps wrestled aggressively from the start of each match, scoring the first offensive points of the match in six of the nine bouts against the Dukes.

UNC Greensboro 27, Maryland 11
Charlie Pinto and Jason Kiessling scored major decisions for the Terps, but UNC Greensboro was too much in the upper weights as it held off Maryland, 27-11. The Terrapins trailed by a single point after 174, but the Spartans were able to get a decision, a fall and a forfeit in the final three bouts for the victory.

The Spartans started strong with a pair of decisions at 125 and 133, but Pinto helped the Terps cut into the lead by scoring a major decision at 141. Pinto scored two takedowns in the first and second periods, and added another in the third for the victory.

UNCG's Andrew Kreiger used a strong second period to down Andrew Schlaffer at 149, and O.T. Johnson was too much for Bryan Rizzo at 157 to stretch the Spartan lead to 12-4. Kiessling helped the Terps rally, though, scoring three takedowns in the third period to secure a major decision for Maryland.

Rob Parker helped build on that momentum at 174, where his takedown late in the second period proved to be the difference his 3-2 victory. That narrowed the Spartan lead to 12-11, but Joe Lowe held off Luke Stauffer at 184 for a 11-6 decision, and Daren Burns tallied a pin in 1:51 to seal the victory for UNCG. Joe Sheffield won by forfeit to close out the dual.

UNC Greensboro 39, Duquesne 4
UNC Greensboro was dominant against Duquense, winning 39-4. The Spartans picked up two falls, a technical fall and a major decision in the victory over the Dukes.

The Spartans jumped out early behind 125-pounder Joe Kemmerer's technical fall of John Zappa in 3:22. Chris Bencivenga (133) followed that with a major decision, and UNCG picked up a forfeit at 141 to race out to the 15-0 lead.

The Spartans kept rolling through the middle of the lineup, with Andrew Krieger and O.T. Johnson earning decisions at 149 and 157. UNCG's Mark Ring (165) trailed Rob Dempsey 2-1 late in the second, but scored a reversal and three near fall points to rally for a 6-2 lead after two periods, which he would hold through the third for the victory.

Joe Lowe controlled his match against Duquesne's Mike Buczkowski, scoring seven points in the first period alone. Lowe scored a takedown and three more near fall points before finishing Buczkowski for the fall at 4:15. Freddy Valoy scored a takedown and a reversal for the 4-0 win over Zack Hawk at 184 pounds. Nineteenth-ranked Dave Burns needed just 1:32 to turn Tim Frank for the fall at 197 pounds.

In the final bout, Duquesne's Marc Allemang was able to get the Dukes on the board with a 10-2 major decision. Allemang scored a takedown in each period, including two in the third, and was dominant on top racking up over four minutes of riding time.
