
Terps Wrap Up Football Season at Annual Banquet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland football team officially put the wraps on its 2004 season at today's annual team banquet which was held at the Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Md. At the event, team award winners were announced to the sold-out crowd.
The banquet, hosted by master of ceremonies Chick Hernandez of Comcast SportsNet, honored the overall accomplishments of a team that featured 19 seniors who were the second-winningest class in school history, won a pair of bowl games and took the school to its first BCS game and got the school its first win in program history over perennial powerhouse Florida State in 2004.
Amongst the winners this year were team most valuable player, junior LB D'Qwell Jackson, who led the Atlantic Coast Conference in tackles in `04; senior Kyle Schmitt who was named the team's most valuable offensive player; NFL-bound DE Shawne Merriman who was named defensive player of the year and punter Adam Podlesh who was named special teams player of the year after finishing his second consecutive season as a Ray Guy Award semifinalist.
