COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 13th-ranked Maryland Terrapins and eighth-ranked Duke will meet this Friday night at 8 p.m. for an important Atlantic Coast Conference meeting at Koskinen Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel (check local listings) as its "Game of the Week."

After losing two straight, the Terps (7-3-0, 2-1-0 ACC) got back on the winning track with a pair of victories at home last week.

The Terps will try to win on the road for the first time since their season-opening win over Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 2. Maryland is 1-3-0 on the road this year and 6-0-0 at Ludwig Field.

Maryland and Duke were the Atlantic Coast Conference's representatives at last year's College Cup.

The Terps are making their second of four appearances on television this Friday. Maryland will again be a part of FSC's "National Game of the Week" again next week as it plays host to North Carolina on Friday at 8 p.m.

Duke (7-1-1, 2-0-1 ACC) will be the fifth Maryland opponent to be ranked this season. The Terps are 4-1-0 against ranked opponents this season.

Duke's John Rennie and Maryland's Sasho Cirovski have combined for 621 wins. Rennie ranks third among active coaches in victories with 420, while Cirovski notched his 200th and 201st career wins last week.

Next Up: Before the Terps face the Tar Heels in primetime, Maryland will travel to face local rival Georgetown on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m.

    The Week That Was
    • Maryland snapped its two game losing streak with a pair of home victories over William & Mary and 14th-ranked Wake Forest.
Jason Garey became Maryland's all-time leader in goals with his game-winner against the Tribe. Garey handled a long pass from Stephen King in the 83rd minute and scored from just outside the six. The win was also Sasho Cirovski's 200th career victory.
    • Garey scored two goals and A.J. Godbolt added two assists as the Terps knocked off No. 14 Wake Forest, 3-1, at Ludwig Field. Garey gave Maryland an early lead, but the Deacs rallied scoring on a header off a corner kick. King buried a penalty kick after a handball call and Garey added another score to put the game away. Wake rallied in the second half, out-shooting Maryland 10-2, but Chris Seitz made five saves to help preserve the win.
    • Garey was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week for the second time this season following his performance against the Tribe and Demon Deacons.
    • Seitz earned both wins in goal last week for the Terps. He made nine saves and allowed one goal in his two starts.

    Tough Slate
    • According to the most recent NSCAA poll, eight Maryland Terrapin opponents are ranked among the nation's top 25 (including this week's matchup with Duke). Also, three Maryland opponents are currently ranked in the Top 10.
    • The Terps are also facing 10 teams that advanced to the 2004 NCAA Tournament, including fellow College Cup qualifiers Indiana and Duke.
    • Maryland is 4-1-0 against ranked opponents this season, including four straight.

    Goalin Garey
    • After one of the strongest offensive seasons in Maryland history, forward Jason Garey has garnered national attention heading into his senior season. The Sports Illustrated On Campus Player of the Year set a school record for points in 2004 with 53. He netted 22 goals and had nine assists.
    • Garey has been named a preseason All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com and Soccer America. He is also among the 25 players named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List that was released August 24. Garey was a semifinalist for the award in 2004.
    • Garey scored his record-breaking 46th goal on Sept. 27 with his game-winner against William & Mary. He now has 48 career goals.
    • Garey earned conference and national Player of the Week honors on Sept. 12 after scoring two goals against No. 5 Santa Clara and one goal against No. 15 Virginia Commonwealth.
    • He also earned national recognition on Oct. 3 as a member of CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week after scoring a goal against William & Mary and a pair of scores against then-No. 14 Wake Forest.
    • Maryland is 6-0-0 this season when Garey scores a goal.
    • Garey is just the third player in Terrapin history to have over 100 career points. He needs just three more points to pass former teammate Abe Thompson for the lead in that category.

    Tracking 200
    • Terrapin head coach Sasho Cirovski picked up his 200th victory last Tuesday against William & Mary -- becoming the 46th active Division I coach to reach the milestone. His current career record is 201-99-18.
    • Interestingly, Cirovski is the third ACC coach to win his 200th career game this season (UNC's Elmar Bolowich and Boston College's Ed Kelly also accomplished the feat).
    • Cirovski, who had a pair of 13-win seasons at Hartford before coming to College Park, has 175 wins at Maryland (which ranks second only to the legendary Doyle Royal at Maryland).
    • Cirovski's .659 career winning percentage ranks 20th among active coaches.

    Feast Or Famine
    • In each of Maryland's three losses, the Terps have been shut out. In the Terrapin wins, though, Maryland is averaging over three goals a game (3.29).
    • Similarly, at home, the Terps are averaging 2.67 goals a game. On the road, the Terps have been shut out in three out of four games.

    Start Me Up
    • The Terps are 7-0-0 this season when scoring the game's first goal.
    • In all three of Maryland's losses, not only have the Terps not gotten a lead, they have given up a goal in the game's first 10 minutes.
    • Duke is outscoring its opponents 14-1 in the first half.

    Fantastic Four Years
    • Maryland's 64 victories since 2002 are second most in a four-year span at Maryland. In fact, with a minimum of nine games left (eight regular season, at least one ACC Tournament game), the Terps are five wins shy of setting the record.
    • In each of the previous three seasons, the Terrapins have advanced to the national semifinals and have played in the ACC Tournament finals.

    Duke At A Glance
    • The Blue Devils enter Friday night's game ranked eighth in the country with a record of 7-1-1, including a 2-0-1 mark in ACC action.
    • Duke is unbeaten in its last five games and is outcoring its opponents 16-5 in that span.
    • Duks is 2-1-0 against ranked opponents this season.
    • Duke has played three overtime games this season, and is 2-0-1 in those games.
    • Leading the way offensively for the Blue Devils is team captain Chris Loftus with eight goals and two assists. Spencer Wadsworth has a team-best seven assists, and last season's ACC Freshman of the Year Michael Videira has six assists.
    • Videira and Blake Camp are All-America candidates in the midfield.
    • The Blue Devils have a remarkable 40 assists on 25 goals this season.
    • Sophomore Justin Papadakis is in his first full season as a starter after backing up Justin Trowbridge last season. Papadakis has a goals-against average of 1.29 and has 23 saves on the year. He has recorded two shutouts in nine starts this season.

    Series History vs. Duke
    • Maryland leads the all-time series vs. the Blue Devils, holding a 38-18-3 edge. However, Duke has won four of the last six meetings against the Terps.
    • In the last two meetings, each team has won on the opposing squad's home field. Duke upset the Terps last season at Ludwig Field, 2-1, while the Terrapins came away with a 2-0 win in their last visit to Koskinen Stadium.
Sasho Cirovski is 3-3-0 against the Blue Devils in Durham.

    Terps On The TV
    • The Maryland Terrapins are scheduled to be on television three more times this season after the broadcast of the Santa Clara game on CN8/Comcast on Sept. 9.
    • Maryland's game against Indiana on Oct. 29 will also be on CN8/Comcast.
    • The Terps will play two nationally televised games on Fox Soccer Channel -- Friday, Oct. 7 at Duke and Friday, Oct. 14, at home against North Carolina.

Men`s Soccer Program Contributes To Katrina Victims
    • The Maryland men's soccer program helped raise over $2,000 for the Hurrican Katrina relief effort.
    • Each player contributed $20, and Sasho Cirovski chipped in $500, meaning the men's team itself donated over $1,000.
    • On Friday, Sept. 9 vs. Santa Clara, the women's team collected donations during the game to bring the total over $2,000.
