CARY, N.C. -- The Maryland Terrapins will look for a berth in a fourth straight ACC Final Friday night against Duke. The Terps defeated Wake Forest 2-1 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Duke came away with a 2-0 win over Virginia Tech. Maryland was the only higher seed to advance out of the quarterfinals.

The Terp-Blue Devil winner will face the winner of Clemson-North Carolina. The finals will be televised live at 1 p.m. on the ACC Sports Network (Comcast Sports Net, Fox Sports South and the Sunshine Network).

    • In the quarterfinal, Wake Forest's only shot on goal was their penalty kick by Steven Curfman. Maryland's Kenney Bertz patrolled the air and helped anchor a defense that allowed only eight total shots in the game.
    • The Blue Devils (11-4-2) are the tournament's fifth seed and are ranked No. 22 in the most recent NSCAA poll. Prior to their win over the Hokies, the Blue Devils had not won an ACC Tournament game since defeating Maryland in 2000 (2-1).
    • Duke is 4-3-1 against ranked opponents this season. The Terps are 8-1-1 against ranked opponents this season and are unbeaten in their last nine games against ranked foes. Included in that streak was a 3-1 win over then-No. 8 Duke on Oct. 7. • Duke and Maryland were the ACC's representitives at the College Cup last season.
    • Maryland is 5-2-1 all-time in the ACC Semifinals. The last time Maryland lost in the conference semifinals was in 1998 (to Clemson). The Terps are 1-2-0 against Duke at the ACC Tournament.

    • The Terps have not lost a game this year in which they have scored at least one goal.

    Last Time vs. Duke
The 13th-ranked Maryland Terrapins scored three second half goals to upset No. 8 Duke, 3-1, in front of a nationally televised audience at a soggy Koskinen Stadium. Jason Garey and Stephen King each notched a goal and an assist and Chris Seitz made six saves as the Terps snapped their three-game road losing streak.

"This was a great conference win on the road against a great Duke team," head coach Sasho Cirovski. "We made the big plays that you need to make in order to win the big games."

The Blue Devils tested Maryland early in the first half with two shots on goal that were saved by Seitz. Duke's pressure led to six corner kicks before the intermission, but was any able to capitalize on the chances. Maryland's best chance came in the 16th minute after Michael Dello-Russo crossed to Jason Garey, but Garey's shot from just outside the six was stuffed by Justin Papadakis. Seitz made another diving save late in the first half to keep the Blue Devils off the board.

The Terps came out strong in the second half, with Garey able to fire a header on goal in the 46th minute of action. Just two minutes later, King notched the score after David Glaudemans freed up Robbie Rogers on the left side of the field. Rogers made a strong individual move into the box and had his first shot attempted blocked by a sliding Duke defender, but it came back to him where he was able to get the ball across to King on the far post for the score.

The Blue Devils had a great chance to even the score after a Blue Devil was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Blake Camp took the PK, but Seitz came up big with the stop. The defensive momentum was almost immediately negated, though, as Tomek Charowski finished a short pass from Camp in traffic to knot the score at 1-1 with over 30 minutes to play in the half.

The two teams traded chances through the next 15 minutes, but Maryland cashed in next on a goal by Garey. King set up the chance after working his way to the endline before finding his teammate in the box. Garey had to shield off a Duke defender but managed to finish his chance from seven yards out at 73:53.

Aki Kadotani put the Blue Devils away in the 83rd minute with an 19-yard blast past Papadakis. Garey won a ball on the left flank and dropped it back to Kadotani in the middle of the field. Kadotani dribbled his way to the top of the box and fired for his first goal of the season.

With his three points, Garey became Maryland's all-time leader in that category with 113, passing former teammate Abe Thompson atop the list.
