
Maryland's Doron Voted ACC Women's Hoops Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's Shay Doron was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, which was announced by the league office today. A national player of the year candidate, Doron scored her 1,000th career point over the weekend.
A junior guard, Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) led the No. 14 Terps to a pair of wins over the weekend, tallying 23 points in each game at Siena (107-66) and vs. Xavier (93-68). She was 9-for-14 from the field in the season-opening win over the Saints, including 2-for-4 from three-point range, while adding a game-high seven assists.
Against Xavier on Sunday, Doron became the fastest player in school history to score 1,000 points, doing so in 64 games. She is the 21st player in school history to tally over 1,000 career points. She also added a team-high tying seven boards and four assists.
Doron averaged 23 points, 5.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds over the weekend, and shot 58.6 percent from the field (17-for-29) and was 5-for-9 from behind the arc (55.6 percent).
Doron earns ACC Player of the Week honor for the second time in her career, also earning the recognition last year.
Maryland heads to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam, where it faces defending WCC regular season champion Gonzaga on Thursday, Nov. 24. The game will air live on Comcast SportsNet and Fox Sports Net at 6 p.m. ET.
