COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland women's basketball team broke into the national top 10 for the first time since February 9, 1993, earning a No. 10 national ranking in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Terps put their ranking to the test for the first time when they take on Gonzaga at the Paradise Jam on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net and locally on Comcast SportsNet.
Maryland is coming off two decisive season-opening wins over Siena (107-66) and Xavier (93-68), posting back-to-back 90-point outings for the first time since 2003. The 107 points scored against the Saints was the most for Maryland since 1991.
Leading the way for the Terps is national player of the year candidate, junior Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King). She was named the ACC's Player of the Week this week after putting up 23 points in both of the Terrapins' victories.
After its game against Gonzaga, the Terps face back-to-back top 10 opponents. Maryland battles No. 9 Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 25, then plays No. 1 Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 26 for the first meeting between the teams since December of 1994.
