Jackson One of Three Bednarik Award Finalists

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maxwell Football Club President, Ron Jaworski, announced today the 2005 Finalists for the 69th Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year, the 11th Chuck Bednarik Award for the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year, and the 17th George Munger Award for College Coach of the Year. Maryland senior D'Qwell Jackson was one of three finalists for the Bednarik Award.

The three finalists for the 11th Chuck Bednarik Award are Jackson, A.J. Hawk (Ohio State), and Paul Posluszny (Penn State). Jackson follows in the footsteps of Maryland's first-ever Bednarik finalist, E.J. Henderson, the 2002 recipient of the prestigious award.

The announcement of the winners of the Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be made during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN on Thursday December 8, 2005. Three finalists for each award will be in attendance for the ESPN broadcast.

The three finalists for the 69th Maxwell Award are, in alphabetical order, Reggie Bush, Jr. Running Back, USC, Matt Leinart, Sr. Running Back, USC and Vince Young, Jr. Quarterback, University of Texas.

The Maxwell Football Club is also proud to announce the three finalists for the 17th George Munger Award for Collegiate Coach of the Year. The finalists for this award are Mack Brown, University of Texas, Joe Paterno, Penn State University and Charlie Weis, Notre Dame.

The Maxwell Football Club will announce the winner of the 17th George Munger Award via a press release in December. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner, to be held on Friday March 3, 2006 at the Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
