The Maryland women's basketball team puts its first top-10 ranking in 15 years to the test when they play Gonzaga on Thursday, Nov. 24 to open the Paradise Jam, hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands. The game airs live nationally on Fox Sports Net and locally in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area on Comcast SportsNet. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. ET.
The Terps play their first game as the 10th-ranked team in the nation on Thanksgiving Day. They are 2-0 after wins last weekend over Siena and Xavier. Their matchup with the Bulldogs is the first-ever between the teams.
Maryland is led by national player of the year candidate junior Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King). She has scored 23 points in both of the Terrapins' victories, surpassing the 1,000 point mark vs. the Musketeers, becoming the fastest player in school history to do so, and the 21st player overall.
Also a national player of the year candidate, sophomore Cyrstal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) is the team's rebounding leader, posting her first double-double of the season, and 19th of her career, at Siena.
At least four players have reached double figures in Maryland's first two games this season as the team has shot 57 percent from the field. The Terps have also gone 12-for-27 from behind the arc for a 44.4 shooting percentage, vastly improving on last season's 32 percent team shooting percent from that range.
The Bulldogs were the West Coast Conference's regular season champion a year ago, advancing to the WNIT Tournament. They are 1-1 heading into the Paradise Jam. Ashley Anderson and Stephanie Hawk lead the team with 13.5 ppg apiece.
After their game against Gonzaga, the Terps face No. 9 Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be webcast at www.paradisejam.com. It will be Maryland's first top-10 matchup since Jan. 20, 1993.
