
Coleman, Langhorne Earn ACC Women's Basketball Rookie and Player of the Week Nods

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's Crystal Langhorne and Marissa Coleman were named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after leading the Terrapins to a 2-1 week against several top-flight opponents at the Paradise Jam over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Maryland (4-1) faced Gonzaga, Michigan State and Tennessee in the U.S. Virgin Islands last week. The Terrapins, ranked 10th in the nation in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls, beat Gonzaga on Thursday, 88-50, topped No. 9/9 Michigan State on Friday, 75-61, and were edged by No. 2/1 Tennessee on Saturday, 80-75.
A national player of the year candidate, Langhorne averaged a double-double in the three games, scoring 14.0 points per game to go along with 10.7 rebounds per contest. Against the Bulldogs on Thursday, she scored 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting in just 16 minutes of action. The sophomore from Willingboro, N.J., narrowly missed a double-double, as she pulled down nine rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end of the floor.
Langhorne followed up with double-double on Friday against the Spartans, as she scored 10 points and ripped down a game- and season-high 12 boards. She had nine defensive rebounds and went 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Against the Lady Vols in the Paradise Jam title game on Saturday, Langhorne tied for game-high honors with a season-high 19 points. The reigning ACC Rookie of the Year also collected 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Langhorne shot 66.7 percent from the field for the week, converting 14 of her 21 field goal attempts. She was also 14-of-19 from the free throw line and added five assists in the three games, earning a spot on the Paradise Jam All-Tournament team.
Coleman continued to impress in her rookie campaign, as she came off the bench to average a team-best 16.7 points per game on the week. Coleman, a guard/forward from Cheltenham, Md., poured in a game- and career-high 21 points against Gonzaga, adding three rebounds and three assists. She was 9-for-15 from the field, including a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the 3-point arc.
Against 2005 NCAA finalist MSU, Coleman scored 13 points - 11 of which came in a five-minute span in the second half - to go with a career-high eight rebounds. She also had a solid game against the Lady Vols, scoring 16 points and pulling down four rebounds. Coleman was 8-for-9 from the free throw line and 4-for-6 from the field. She also added two assists and two steals.
For the week, Coleman was 19-for-32 from the field (50.4 percent) and went 4-for-8 from 3-point range. She also averaged 5.0 rebounds per game had five assists and four steals on the week, earning a spot on the Paradise Jam All-Tournament team. Through Maryland's five games on the season, Coleman shares the team lead with 16.0 points per game and has scored in double figures in each contest.
Langhorne is the second Terrapin this season to earn ACC Player of the Week honors. Junior Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) earned the recognition last week.
The Terps come home for seven of their next nine games, beginning with Appalachian State on Thursday, Dec. 1. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
