Six Terps Earn Annual ACC Honors

Nov. 7, 2005

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Six Maryland Terrapins were honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its annual awards today, including Coach of the Year Sasho Cirovski and Offensive Player of the Year Jason Garey.

Cirovski earns the honor for the second time in his 13 seasons at Maryland. This season he guided the Terps to the ACC regular season title with a mark of 7-1-0. The Terrapins have an overall mark of 14-3-1 and are ranked among the top three in each of the four major polls.

Garey becomes just the third Terp to be named ACC Player of the Year honors joining Nick Skirka (1970) and Leo Cullen (1997). Garey leads the conference in goals and points per game and ranks tied for 10th all-time in conference history for goals (56).

Garey and defender senior Kenney Bertz were also named to the All-ACC first team. Bertz has helped the Terrapins to nine shutouts this season, including three in conference games. He also helped anchor a defense that allowed just five goals in eight ACC games.

Sophomore midfielder Maurice Edu and freshman goalkeeper Chris Seitz were named to the All-ACC second team. Edu has three goals and four assists on the year, with all four assists coming in league play. Seitz started five conference games and recorded three shutouts while maintaining a 0.60 goals-against average. Overall, Seitz is maintaining 0.73 goals-against average which ranks first in the ACC.
