#8/8 Maryland 69, Coppin State 38

Dec. 13, 2005

Recap |  Box Score |  Notes |  Photo Gallery

Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese
On the game
"Coppin State came out with a great game plan. They wanted to come in and slow the game down to limit our possessions. I thought we could have played harder, but I think our minds were on exams. We have to take care of the basketball, but we fought through and got another win."

On turnovers
"We've addressed it. When you get to ACC play, you have to limit them to be a contender. We have to take better care of the basketball. The exciting thing is that every time we challenge this team to get better, they've done that. This is the remaining area where we need to get better."

On rebounding
"Coppin State came in and rebounded well, but I thought we did a tremendous job of keeping them off the glass and were very active ourselves."

On team defense
"I thought our post players played tremendous inside defense. They were very active inside."

On the use of the full court press
"We've been working on it and we wanted to be able to utilize it in a game situation. I thought we were able to get better at it tonight. Once Coppin State's game plan was to reduce possessions and use the shot clock, we used it more than we usually would."

On the team thus far this season
"We've played at a very high level. I love where we are, and I love the chemistry on this team. We want to be the best."

On the play of Marissa Coleman
"We recruited her to come in and have a huge impact. I knew she would be versatile from the guard and forward positions but I never expected her to be backing up the point. She does have some turnovers, but we've been asking her to play the point guard position which she's never played before. She has that unselfish mentality like everyone on this team that is the reason that we're 9-1."

Maryland Forward Marissa Coleman
On turnovers
"They are a big concern for me, but it's just something that I have to work on in practice to get better in these last few games before conference play."

On her role
"I'm happy with the way I'm playing. I just want to do whatever I can to help my team win. We have the common goal of trying to get to the Final Four, so whatever I can do to help us get there is great. I just want to get better and help the team win."

Maryland Guard Shay Doron
On the halftime motivation
"We wanted to come out with a lot more energy in the second half. We were turning the ball over more than we wanted to and we weren't getting good shots because of that."

Maryland Forward Laura Harper
On rebounding
"Obviously rebounding has been very important for us because it prevents the other team from getting second and third opportunities. If we can limit opportunities, we can control the game."

On the play of the team so far
"We have goals every time we get on the court. We don't look at it as a big picture. We want to get better every game. We want to improve on 9-1 though, because it looks nice on paper."

On her role
"This team is so wonderful and talented. I just want to help the team in whatever way I can. I'm playing. I just want to play, because I didn't play last year. It's the best thing in the world. Whenever coach needs me in there, I'm ready to go."
