The individual awards have started to roll in for the 2005 NCAA champion Maryland Terrapin men's soccer team. Hermann Trophy finalist Jason Garey has received Player of the Year nods from several outlets and head coach Sasho Cirovski was named the South Atlantic Coach of the Year by the NSCAA.
For the second consecutive season, Garey was named Sports Illustrated On Campus' men's soccer player of the year. He was also named the player of the year by Soccer America in addition to being named one of the publication's 11 MVPs on the year. Garey was also recognized as a first team All-America selection by the NSCAA and College Soccer News.
Five Terrapins were recognized in the South Atlantic region by the NSCAA, including Cirovski's Coach of the Year recognition. Garey and sophomore midfielder Stephen King were named to the All-South Atlantic first team, while defenders Kenney Bertz and Chris Lancos claimed third team honors.
Three freshmen were lauded for their performances by College Soccer News. Goalkeeper Chris Seitz was selected to the first team, A.J. Delagarza was named to the second team, and Robbie Rogers was chosen for the third team. Maryland tied with Akron for the most freshmen represented on the teams.
