Coming off their biggest offensive outburst of the season, nearly breaking the school's 13-year-old single-game scoring record, the No. 9/9 Maryland women's basketball team hosts Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at Comcast Center. The first 500 fans receive a free Maryland women's basketball poster.
The Terps took care of business on Thursday vs. the Mountaineers of Appalachian State and look to do the same vs. the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers. The Terrapins had six players reach double figures en route to a 118-59 victory, three points shy of tying the single-game school record. Three players also registered double-double for the first time in their careers.
National player of the year candidate Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) leads the team with 16.7 points per game after netting 20 vs. Appalachian State. ACC Rookie of the Week Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) is close behind with 16.2 ppg, after a 17-point performance vs. ASU. She also had 10 boards for her first-career double-double. Sophomore Jade Perry (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg North) (16 pts., 16 reb.) and freshman Kristi Toliver (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) (17 pts., 11 assists) also posted double-doubles for the first time.
The Terps have been the top team in the state of Maryland, owning an all-time record of 75-9 versus state squads, dating back to 1971-72. Only Towson, Salisbury, Western Maryland and Loyola have ever claimed wins over the Terps. The Mount is 3-0 all-time vs. Maryland.
MSM enters the game with a 2-2 record after defeating William & Mary, 84-75, in overtime in Williamsburg, Va. The Mount's game vs. Maryland is the fourth road test in five games for the Mountaineers.
Sunday's game marks the first meeting between the teams since 1995 and the fourth overall. The Mountaineers make their third-ever trip to College Park.
