COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The sixth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team is making their final road trip before ringing in the New Year. The Terps go around the beltway to George Mason on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. Maryland is on a five-game win streak, while the Patriots are looking for their first home win since Nov. 21.
The Terps (9-1) make their first trip to Fairfax, Va., since 1990 for just the third meeting between the teams since the series began in 1989. Maryland won both previous meetings against George Mason, sweeping a home-and-home series.
Maryland will have had nine days off since its last game which was a 69-38 victory over Coppin State at home. Four Terrapins reached double figures for the ninth time this season as the Terps continue to get balanced scoring from each player on the roster.
GMU (4-4) is coming off a 64-59 win at Brown. The Patriots defeated common-opponent Mount St. Mary's to open the season, 75-64. They are also 1-0 vs. ACC squads this season, edging Miami, 68-61, in Coral Gables, Fla., on Nov. 30.
The Terps will be going up against a young Mason team which has 12 players who are either freshmen (6) or sophomores (6) and has just one senior. The GMU starting lineup consists of three sophomores, a junior and a senior.
The game can be listened to on the University of Maryland's WMUC radio or by clicking on the "Listen" link at www.umterps.com. A live web cast will be broadcast from George Mason's official athletic site at www.gomason.com. Maryland then returns home for the annual Terrapin Classic on Dec. 29 and 30.
