The ninth-ranked Terrapins hit the road for a non-conference women's basketball clash at Monmouth on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Maryland has won back-to-back games since dropping a heartbreaking 80-75 decision to No. 1 Tennessee at the Paradise Jam and is looking to extend that win streak.
The Terps (6-1) have recorded two-straight 100-point games, the first time they have done so since 1991-92. Maryland has never had three-consecutive 100-point outings.
Sporting a balanced attack, Maryland is averaging 94.0 points per game, the most of any ACC team. It has scored 100 points three times this year and has netted at least 75 points in every game. The Terps have five players averaging double figures, led by junior Shay Doron's (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) 16.9 points per game. Sophomore Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) is coming off a 30-point outing, upping her season average to 16.4 ppg, while freshman Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) is chipping in 16.2 ppg. Freshman Kristi Toliver (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) and sophomore Laura Harper (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) are averaging 12.4 and 11.0 ppg, respectively.
Having outrebounded every opponent this season, the Terps also lead the ACC in rebounding margin at 18.6 rebounds per game. Maryland has outrebounded its opponents by at least 20 four times this season, including a 31-rebound margin vs. Appalachian State. The Terps have three players among the ACC's top 20 in rebounding, with Langhorne averaging 8.9 boards per game which is second in the league. Classmate Jade Perry (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg North) is also among the top 10 after posting back-to-back double-doubles. She is seventh in the league with 7.6 rpg.
Monmouth is 1-4 heading into Wednesday's game after losing its third-straight game to Princeton on Dec. 1, 64-56. The Hawks are led by 2005 first team All-Northeast Conference performer Niamh Dwyer, who played at the 2005 World University Games as a member of Ireland's team. She is leading the squad with 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. She is also the team's assist leader (5.4) and is tied for the team lead with eight steals on the season.
