Football Alumni, Staff Honored by AAFF

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A group of staff and alumni involved with the University of Maryland football program will be honored by the All-American Football Foundation on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the organization's 75th Banquet of Champions to be held at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore.

The annual event, held in various places around the country, honors staff members who have made significant and longtime contributions to the sport of football at various levels.

Those honorees connected with the University of Maryland are:

  • Outstanding Faculty Athletics Representative Award - Dr. Charles Wellford
  • All-American Football Legends Award - Gary Collins
  • Scoop Hudgins Outstanding Sports Information Director Award - Doug Dull
  • Outstanding Equipment Manager Award - Ron Ohringer
  • Lindsey Nelson Outstanding Sportscaster Award - Johnny Holliday
  • Bill Wade Unsung Hero Award - Dick Shiner

    Featured on the list for this event are Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich, who will receive the Outstanding American Award, Johnny Unitas who will receive an All-American Football Legends Award, and Baltimore Ravens owner Art Modell, who will earn the Lamar Hunt Pro Football Executive Award.
