COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the first time in 12 years and only the fourth time overall, the No. 9/8 Terrapin women's basketball team will host a Pac-10 team when Arizona visits Comcast Center on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. Prior to tip-off, there will be a special recognition for sophomore Crystal Langhorne who will be presented with the USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year trophy.
The Terps have won three games in a row, averaging over 102 points in those contests. Boasting its highest ranking in 12 seasons, Maryland is 7-1 to start the year for the second-consecutive year and only the third time since 1993-94. The Terps were also 7-1 in 1996-97.
Arizona, who is on a two-game win streak and is 4-2 on the season, is looking to avenge an overtime loss to the Terps last season. Then-freshman Jade Perry knocked down a jumper with less than a second remaining in regulation to force overtime. Maryland then outscored the Wildcats, 15-8, to claim the 84-77 victory.
Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) earns the prestigious honor after leading the USA U19 World Championship team to a gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Tunis, Tunisia. Langhorne was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. The U19 squad was also recently named Team of the Year by USA Basketball. Freshman Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) was also a member of that team and will also be recognized this weekend for her participation on the U19 team.
Tickets can be purchased at www.umterps.com or at the Comcast Center ticket office. The ticket office opens one hour prior to tip-off.
