COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 19/21 Maryland women's basketball team is looking to "Cram Comcast" and break the ACC women's basketball single-game attendance record when it hosts No. 4/3 Duke this Sunday, February 13th at 3:00 p.m.
The Terrapins own the current record of 14,500 which was set on February 12, 1992 at Cole Field House. On that day, No. 1 Maryland hosted No. 2 Virginia. At last season's regular-season home finale against the Blue Devils, the Terps drew a Comcast Center record 13,446 fans -- the second-largest crowd in ACC women's history.
University President Dr. C.D. Mote, Jr. and the First Lady of Maryland Kendel S. Ehrlich are spearheading the effort to break the ACC women's basketball attendance record. The game will also help raise awareness for the Maryland Women's Heritage Center. The Center's mission is to "preserve the past, understand the present, and shape the future by recognizing, respecting, and transmitting the experiences and contributions of Maryland women."
The Center will be the first state center of its kind in the nation and will feature exhibits about individuals, events and special topics, an interactive, state-of-the-art student learning center, a women's history archive and reference library, as well as performances and special events by Maryland women. The Center is an outgrowth of the Maryland Women's History Project, a collaborative venture between the Maryland Commission for Women and the Maryland State Department of Education which began in 1981.
