Maryland's Shay Doron was selected first team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 which was recently announced. The 20th-ranked Terrapins' leading scorer has compiled a 3.66 cumulative GPA in two years at the University of Maryland.
Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) is second in the ACC and first on the team in scoring with 19.0 points per game. Her 456 points so far this season is 15th on the all-time single season scoring list at Maryland. On Jan. 9, she scored a career-high and a school-record tying 39 points in the Terps' upset of then No. 4/5 North Carolina.
Doron was named to the Preseason Naismith Player of the Year watch list and was selected Preseason All-ACC. She has scored 20 or more points 10 times and is ranked among the ACC's top 15 in six statistical categories. A Letters & Sciences major, she has also earned a spot on the Intercollegiate Honor Roll three times.
Student-athletes who are a starter or important reserve, have reached a sophomore standing and have achieved at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale are eligible to be nominated. The all-district teams are voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Student-athletes who are named to the first team are eligible for the national ballot.
Doron and the Terps travel to Virginia for their final road contest of the season on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m.
