COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland's Crystal Langhorne was selected ACC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for a school-record fifth time this season. It is also the most selections earned by a conference freshman this season.
With just two regular season games remaining on the schedule, Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) is making a compelling case for ACC Rookie of the Year honors. In the Terps' road win at Miami, she made a strong statement, posting career-highs of 29 points and 22 rebounds, becoming the first Terrapin in 25 years to record a 20-point and 20-rebound game and the first since that year to haul down 20 boards. Coming to within one rebound of tying the school record, the 22 rebounds are also second-most in the nation this season.
In the disappointing loss at Virginia, Langhorne posted ACC-leading her 12th double-double of the season. She scored 11 points to go with 12 rebounds in the 63-61 setback.
The 6-3 center/forward has boosted her season averages to 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She is the ACC's rebounding leader and is the highest scoring freshman in the league. Her .604 field goal percentage is also second-best in the ACC.
Maryland (18-7, 7-6 ACC) closes out the ACC regular-season slate on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. hosting Virginia Tech. The Hokies, who won the first meeting between the teams on Jan. 2, are making their first visit to College Park as members of the ACC.
