COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland women's basketball team has claimed the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament and plays 11th-seeded Clemson on Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m. to open postseason play in Greensboro, N.C.
With the expansion of the ACC to 11 teams this season, the top-five teams in the conference have earned a bye into the quarterfinal round. The winner of the Terps-Tigers matchup goes on to play third-seeded NC State on Saturday, March 5 at 8 p.m.
In the only meeting between the teams this season, Maryland came away with an 87-82 victory at Clemson on Feb. 6. Freshman Ashleigh Newman (Shelbyville, Tenn./Shelbyville Central) led the Terps with 21 points, all coming in the first half on seven 3-pointers. Newman and sophomore Kalika France (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara) combined for a school-record tying 11 team treys.
Maryland is 18-8 going into tonight's regular-season finale vs. Northern Colorado. The Terps went 7-7 in ACC play, the first time since 1992-93 and 1993-94 they have posted back-to-back non-losing seasons.
