COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland women's basketball players sophomore Shay Doron and freshman Crystal Langhorne earned spots on the All-ACC team, which was announced today by the conference office. Doron was voted to the first team, the first Terrapin since 1993-94 to earn a spot on the first team. Langhorne was selected to the second team, the highest ever by a Terrapin freshman. The two All-ACC team selections is the most for Maryland since 1999-2000.
An All-ACC third team selection as a freshman last year, Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) is the conference's third leading scorer, averaging nearly 19 points per game. Receiving 39 first team votes for 179 points, she also ranks among the top 15 in the ACC in free throw percentage, assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. A starter in every game, Doron tied the single-game school record with 39 points on Jan. 16 at Florida State, two games after netting 37 vs. ACC regular season co-champion North Carolina. Doron has scored at least 20 points 12 times this season and was named ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 10. With 11 points last night, Doron has scored 502 points this season, which ranks 11th in school history.
Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) received 42 first team votes for 172 points, the most for any freshman in the league. Langhorne is the ACC's leader in rebounding (10.3) and double-doubles (14). She is also ranked fifth with 16.8 points per game. Second in the conference in field goal percentage (.606), she broke the Maryland freshman class single-game record with 33 points in the win over Northern Colorado last night. She has also had 15 10+ rebounding games and was the first Terrapin in 25 years to record a 20 point-20 rebound game when she tallied 29 points to go with 22 boards at Miami, one rebound shy of the school record.
Bonnie Rimkus was the last Terrapin to be named first team All-ACC in 1993-94, her senior season. In 1999-2000, Tiffany Brown, a senior, and Marche Strickland, a sophomore, were selected to the third team.
After wrapping up the regular season last night, the Terps are headed to the ACC Tournament where they face Clemson on Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m. The game can be listened to on the Terrapin
