"Our players have loved the atmosphere this season and enjoy running out of the tunnel to hear the crowd cheer them on. We are looking forward to playing before our home fans at the NCAA Tournament on March 20 and 22."
After the Blue Devils played the Terps in front of the the record-setting crowd, Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors commented, "It was just a tremendous environment for women's basketball. I'm really impressed with the job that Brenda Frese has done here and this crowd was just tremendous."
Maryland's attendance marks have improved 150 percent since Frese arrived three years ago. In her first season (2002-03), the Terps drew 24,612 fans in 14 home contests for an average of 2,051, which ranked 53rd nationally.
Last year, the Terps ranked 45th in average attendance (2,548) in 15 games when a total of 38,759 fans came to Comcast Center to support the Terps.
