Pregame Quotes
Carey Green, Liberty Head Coach
On NCAA Tournament appearance: We're excited to be in this NCAA Tournament. It's March Madness and we feel the energy and craziness during this time. I'm very excited and enthusiastic to have five seniors in a leadership role.
On Penn State guards Tanisha Wright and Jess Strom: Great guard play. They shoot the ball well and attack the basket. It's a major concern of ours because those two can put up a lot of points real quickly. We have to respect that and those two are pretty tenacious on defense as well. We're definitely concerned about them.
On whether mobility of Katie Feenstra is surprising: I've been coaching Division I for 18 years and I'm surprised and I look at it almost daily. She amazes me with some of the things she can do. She has a soft shooting touch to go along with her footwork. If she continues to work at she might be able to play at the next level.
On how you get the rest of team involved in the offense: If Katie can go out and score 80 points I don't care if they don't get involved. We aren't changing anything for this game. Katie is a huge part of our team, but the rest of our team can participate and has all year long. Our style of play is not been one where we are focused in on one star and she's getting the ball most of the time. We've had pretty balanced scoring all year long.
Senior Center Katie Feenstra
On Penn State:
They are a good team. They like to transition and their guards play well along with their post players. We have to be ready to play. We have to come out and make our strengths even greater and make their weaknesses our strengths.
On whether teams are surprised by her mobility: I don't know if they are or not. Hopefully they are because it's something that Coach Green has worked with me on during the past couple of years. Something that I've learned to develop is running the floor and trying to work hard in the post. Hopefully I can do that on Sunday.
Senior Guard/Forward Kristal Tharp
On how practice habits have enhanced their NCAA chances:
I know that we are stronger than we ever have been because we have kept up a good weight lifting program throughout the year. We've just been focusing on executing our offenses during practices and working on our strengths.
