Wisconsin-Green Bay Postgame Quotes vs. Maryland
Kevin Borseth, Wisconsin-Green Bay Head Coach
On UW-Green Bay defensive philosophy:
I think it was real evident that when Langhorne went out of the game in the first half with two fouls that they didn't want to shoot it. And we really felt that if you stopped her the rest of them would struggle. And they did. They didn't really start making shots until we threw the ball away at the end. They didn't make shots. Had we scored baskets I don't think we would have let the crowd get into it.
On playing in hostile environment: I have always felt the NCAA is doing their best to not create a home-court advantage. I think anytime you play on your home court you generally tend to play better. We still could have beat them, I really think we could have. I think if we had in three possessions in the second half scored instead of turned it over, or missed an assignment, we still could have won the game regardless. For the most part we kept the crowd out of it until that point.
On having a history of playing close NCAA Tournament games: You almost have to play perfect in some respects. They took three-point shots away, but let us go to the basket. How many layups did we miss in the first half uncontested? Lots of them. We had a lot of opportunities to score. It's a hard pill to swallow when you have a class as dedicated and determined as the senior class that we've had. They've really sold everything they had for the betterment of the program. To see them not be able to achieve success in the end is really sad, but it doesn't diminish the fact that they are good basketball players and great people. I'll miss them when they leave, I'll guarantee you that.
Senior Guard Abby Scharlow
On how picking up two fouls in the first two minutes affected her play:
In the first half I couldn't be as aggressive on offense and definitely couldn't play defense like I would have liked to have played. You have to be smart out there. I didn't think Coach was going to put me back in, but he did and I didn't get another foul until the second half.
Was the Shay Doron 3-pointer a backbreaker: I think the crowd got into it after that. I think that was the main part the crowd was going crazy after that three. You can't put one specific point on what the specific backbreaker was for me because we had a chance after that. We had many chances, we just didn't execute.
Senior Forward Tiffany Mor
On playing against the Maryland big players inside:
They were really physical. Obviously, rebounding was something that we needed to do well. There were definitely some times when they got offensive rebounds that really hurt us.
On if you felt like you were playing in a hostile environment: I think when they got that four-point lead the crowd was really getting into it and I think we tried to not let it get into our head. It was a hostile environment. They definitely had a good crowd and I think we did as well, but we knew that coming in that that was something we would have to overcome.
