Liberty Pregame Quotes
Head Coach Carey Green
On playing DePaul tomorrow:
I know we've got a big challenge tomorrow, playing a very good DePaul team. We definitely need to work on a few things today, get a good night's rest, and we'll be prepared for tomorrow.
On the kind of game Liberty would like to play:
I'd like to establish inside post play and keep it low scoring. Our last three games we scored 80, 88, 78. Our girls can score. I don't think there's a girl on our team that couldn't score. I really don't want to get into a running game, I think that suits them. That will be a challenge for us. We will be ready.
On last night's victory:
It was a monumental win for us, it was the greatest victory in our basketball history at Liberty. God's blessed us and put us on another higher platform, the level of competition is challenging, and we're thankful for the opportunity. We prepared for the opportunity, and God blessed us in success with that.
On family and friends calling with congratulations:
My cell phone was full by 7 a.m. My phone went dead, I couldn't call my daughter in South Africa. When I turned it on it continued to ring.
On Courtney Watkins and Allyson Fasnacht's play last night:
The coaching staff prepared them for that. They were educated, they were informed, and with that comes empowerment, strength. Both of those young ladies come from outstanding families and basketball programs, and they revealed their character by coming out and playing fearlessly. I think their faith was very important as well. We as a team did a study on Joshua, chapter one, and in that chapter we are given the command to be strong and courageous four times. Within that same chapter it says to take possession. They had to go out and apply their faith, ability and opportunity.
Senior Center Katie Feenstra
On last night's celebration:
We just had so much fun last night, and we really wanted to play well and I think we did that. We're just excited to play tomorrow, excited to get back on the court and learn more about DePaul. I don't think it's going to be difficult to go out and play basketball, it's something that we love to do. We're just going to have to come out to the challenge and play hard and push down on DePaul.
On playing without fear:
We're not fearful, we don't have anything to be fearful of, we have the Lord on our side, that's the biggest strength that we have. He gave us strength last night, and gave us the talent to play, and we're just so thankful and blessed, and we don't have any fear of going up against DePaul. We're just going to have to come out and play hard for 40 minutes, and play like we know how to play.
Senior Guard Kristal Tharp
On teammates Allyson Fasnacht and Courtney Watkins stepping up last night:
Their leadership ability, God's blessed both of them with great talent. They brought a whole new level to our team and kind of sparked us.
On the excitement of defeating Penn State:
All of our fans and families are very excited. It's an opportunity to give God all the glory, and take Liberty to another level. We in our hearts and our parents knew it that we could do it, and I think we shocked a lot of our friends back home. It's a great feeling and I know they're happy for us.
