Powley and US Junior Field Hockey Squad Win Silver at Pan Am Games

March 28, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Terrapin All-American junior Lauren Powley helped the US Field Hockey Women's Under-21 team win its second-straight silver medal at the Pan American Junior Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this past weekend. Powley was a starter every game.

Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.) is in her second year with the U-21 squad, after stints with the Under-20, Under-19 and Under-18 teams. In 2004 with the Terps, she earned her third-straight All-America honor, earning a spot on the first team for the second-consecutive year while also helping Maryland advance to the NCAA Tournament semifinals for the second-straight season.

Reaching the final game of the Pan American Junior Championship, the US lost to Argentina, 3-1. With the second-place finish, the Stars & Stripes earn a berth in the Junior World Cup, Sept. 14-25, in Santiago, Chile.
