COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's Crystal Langhorne was voted the ACC's Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, the league announced today. Earning 64 of the 74 votes, she is the fourth Terrapin in school history to earn the major award and the first since 1991. The award is voted on by 74 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association (ACSWA).

The only player in the ACC to average a double-double, Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) is fifth in the conference in scoring (16.8) and is the conference's leading rebounder with 10.3 rpg. She is the first freshman in the league to average a double-double since Wake Forest's Tracy Connor in 1993.

Langhorne, who was the first Terrapin to be named Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year has been impressive all season. Sixth in the nation and first in the conference with 14 double-doubles, she has had eight 20+ point games and 15 10+ rebounding games this season. In the win at Miami on Feb. 17, she had 29 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Terps. Langhorne was one rebound shy of the school record and the first Terp in 25 years to grab 20 boards. She also became one of just two players in the nation to post a 20-point, 20-rebound game and is the only freshman.

In just her first season, Langhorne's numbers are among the best in school history. In the Terps' final regular season game on Feb. 28, she scored 33 points, breaking Maryland's freshman class single-game mark. Her 277 rebounds are the sixth-highest single-season total all-time at Maryland, her 10.3 rpg is fourth-best, her 16.8 ppg is among the top 10 best averages in school history and her 453 points is one point away from the top 15.

Langhorne was named ACC Rookie of the Week a school-record five times this season, the most for any ACC freshman this year. Earlier this week, she was voted second team All-ACC, garnering 42 first team votes, the most for any rookie in the league. She was also a unanimous selection to the ACC's All-Freshman squad.

Sixth-seeded Maryland, who is 19-8 on the season, faces No. 11 Clemson (8-19) on Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m. in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The game can be heard on the Terrapin Radio Network.
