The Maryland women's tennis team continued its strong play on Saturday afternoon, defeating the NC State Wolfpack, 6-1, at the Tennis Center at College Park. With the win the Terps extended its winning streak to three, and improved to 10-10 and 4-5 in ACC play.
The Terps looked strong from at the very beginning as the matches began. They took the doubles point from the Wolfpack, by winning two of the three doubles matches. Neda Mihneva and Tamar Huppes defeated Danielle Stadelmann and Agustina Arechavaleta, 8-6. Ramona But and Masha Senic topped Carmen Torres and Elin Johansson, 8-2.
In singles play, Maryland dominated the Wolfpack taking five of the six matches in convincing fashion. Ramona But defeated Barbara Orlay, 6-1,6-3. Marianne Baker cruised past Virginia Romero, 6-0, 6-2. Jennifer Dent won the first set in a tough battle against Elin Johannson, 6-0. Johannson bounced back to take the second set 6-2, and the tiebreaker 10-5. Neda Mihneva downed Julia Roach, 6-1, 6-2. Veronika Subertova overpowered Daniellle Stadelman, winning the match, 6-0, 6-0. Julia Graca defeated Agustina Arechavaleta, 6-1, 6-2.
The Terps will finish up the regular season tomorrow at home against Wake Forest at 11 a.m.
