Baltimore, Md. -
Maryland placed two players on the 2005 All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team, which was announced tonight at the Championship Banquet. Junior Tewaaraton Trophy candidate Joe Walters was joined by junior All-American Bill McGlone as Maryland's honorees.
ACC regular season champion Duke placed five Blue Devils on the team and swept the individual player, coach and rookie of the year honors. Virginia had three members of the All-ACC team, while North Carolina only had one honoree.
The 2004 ACC Player of the Year and 2003 ACC Rookie of the Year, Walters leads the Terps in every offensive category: points (34), goals (24), assists (10), man-up goals (4) and shots (91). He has scored at least one goal in 27 straight games and was recently named a semifinalst for the Tewaaraton Trophy. This is the second straight season Walters has earned All-ACC honors.
McGlone, a McLaughlin Award candidate, earned his first All-ACC honor after a tremendous season. He is second on the team in goals with 18 and points with 23, despite being hampered for much of the middle portion of the season with a shoulder injury. Not just an offensive midfielder, McGlone has picked up 23 groundballs and caused two turnovers on the year.
The 2005 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship will be held April 29 and May 1 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Third-seeded Maryland will face No. 2 Virginia in the second semifinal at 8:30 p.m., while No. 1 seed Duke will battle rival North Carolina, the fourth seed, in the first semifinal at 6:00 p.m. The championship game will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
