COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Keon Lattimore rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lift the Red team to a 21-10 victory over the White team Saturday at the annual University of Maryland Red-White Spring Football Game played at Byrd Stadium.

Lattimore scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards to spark the Red team, which included the second-team offense playing against the second-team defense. He finished with 59 yards while rushing for both squads during the scrimmage, in which some of the skill-position players changed sides.

His 1-yard run capped a 12-play, 68-yard drive the first time the Red offense had the football. On its next possession, the Red squad scored when Joel Statham hit Jeremy Navarre with a 6-yard scoring pass, finishing a drive that was sparked by a 29-yard pass from Statham to Greg Powell.

Trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, the White team came back behind the first-team offense. Mario Merrills, who led all running backs with 63 yards rushing, had 22 of his yards on a 32-yard drive that set up a 31-yard field goal by redshirt freshman Obi Egekeze late in the second quarter.

The White team came within 14-10 midway through the third quarter when Sam Hollenbach hit Jo Jo Walker with an 11-yard touchdown pass.

But Lattimore finished the game's scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run for the Red on the third play of the final quarter, capping a 71-yard, 13-play drive.

The quarterbacks for the two teams played nearly even, with Hollenbach completing 16 of 26 passes for 150 yards for the White team, and Statham throwing for 149 yards on a 14-for-26 passing day.

Vernon Davis led all receivers with six catches for 68 yards, while Danny Melendez caught five balls for 47 yards. Powell and Walker had four receptions each.

Sophomore safety J.J. Justice led the Red defense with 13 tackles, with linebacker Chase Bullock topping the White tackle chart with eight. Conrad Bolston had two sacks for the Red.

Maryland opens its 2005 schedule on Sept. 3 in Baltimore against Navy.
